Holy Trinity offers a Sunday School and Crèche for children during the 9.30am Sunday Mass. It is organised by a team of parents under the guidance of Father Graeme.
The aim is to provide children with a stimulating, educational and spiritual experience that involves them in the Parish Mass, while giving parents some time to themselves in church.
The Sunday School starts with the children seated on the front left hand pews with those responsible for school activities that week. Father Graeme gives one of the children a candle and this child leads all the others in to the church hall, while parents remain to join in with the mass.
Babies and under threes play with toys, puzzles and books in the crèche.
Sunday school teachers have some circle time with the children (aged around 3 years upwards) to settle them and then tell them a story and discuss the week’s theme. The children are then invited to join in an activity related to the theme, which can be almost anything from artwork, through to plays, songs or games.
The session is completed with a brief “settling down” circle time and a short prayer before being led by a candle-bearer back into the church.
The children will perform or show what they have made for the congregation at the end of the mass. Their artwork is collected and put on the Sunday School Board.
