ERNEST CHARLES SHEARMAN 1859 - 1939
Born 1859 the son of Charles James Shearman, a Physician.
Married August 18th 1885 to a spinster named Marian Catherine McGowran.
At the time of his marriage he was 26, a bachelor, qualified as an Architect and resided in the Parish of Holy Trinity, South Wimbledon, Surrey.
He had four children: Elsie Margaret, Charles Edward Gowran, Alex Brooke and Joan Patricia.
From 1888-1891 he was Architect to the Great Southern Railway, Buenos Aires. Besides railway works in Argentina, he was also responsible for a number of ecclesiastical and domestic buildings.
In 1892 he was elected Associate to the RIBA.
Between 1910 and 1935 he built 6 London Churches - St Matthew, Wimbledon; St Silas, Kentish Town; St Barnabas, North Ealing; St Gabriel, Acton; St Barnabas, Temple Fortune & St Francis of Assisi, Isleworth.
Died April 17th 1939 at his home, "Byrnelmscote" Park Road, Winchester.
