On the lintel of the principal double doors into the church is a long Latin inscription, in uncial characters, recording the foundation and the consecration.

Translation -
To almighty God and in honour of S.Silas the Martyr, Henry Howard Paul has provided for the building of this Church by such great generosity.
Princess Marie Louise of Schleswig-Holstein has founded it by laying the first stone on 16th December 1911.
The Most Reverend Arthur Lord Bishop of London assisted by William Bishop of Willesden consecrated it for Catholic use, George Napier Whittingham being the first Vicar and Ernest Charles Shearman the master of the works, on 26th October 1912.
Lord I have loved the beauty of your house.

On tablet below the statue of St. Paul.

NON ENIM IVDICAVI ME ALIQVID SCIRE INTER VOS NISI CHRISTVM JESVM ET HVNC CRVCIFIXVM. HANC STATVAM P. C. FRATER & IIJ SORORES GRATIAS AGENTES DEO XXJ OCT: A.D. MCMXVIJ

Translation - For I did not claim to know anything amongst you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. This statue (was given by) P.C. the brother and his three sisters giving thanks to God, 21st October 1917.

A tablet cut in uncial lettering in the Chapel of St. Francis of Assisi records the generosity of Mrs Hunt.

D.O.M. MUNIFICENTIA ALICIAE MARIAE HUNT.
QUI IN HOC SACELLO VERSARIS LECTOR IN HONOREM SCTI FRANCISCI ASSISIENIS UMBRIAE DECORIS PAUPERTATIS SPONSI TOTI ORBI EXEMPLARIS DICATO PRECES TUAS PRO ANIMA UXORIS DILECTISSIMI HENRICI ARTUTI SUPPLEX ORAT ALICIA MARIA HUNT SACRAVIT REVSMS DOM. GULIELM.EPISC. VILLESDENENSIS KAL. NOV. MCMXIII

Translation - To almighty God through the generosity of Alice Mary Hunt. Let the reader who looks around in this chapel, dedicated in honour of S.Francis of Assisi, the gloria of Umbria, spouse of poverty and example for the whole world, offer your prayers for the soul of the beloved Henry Arthur which his wife Alice Mary Hunt devoutly offers: consecrated by the Most Reverend William, Lord Bishop of Willesden 1st November 1913.

The corbel under the statue of St. Norbert has the inscription.

SANCTE NORBERTE ARCHE: XANTEN REGULATOR MORUM CLERUM: ORA PRO NOBIS

Translation - Saint Norbert, Archbishop of Xanten, director of the conduct of the clergy, pray for us.

Quis Postea Rerum Gestarum Splendorem Superabit

Quorum Animas Propitietur Deus

Translation
Who thereafter will surpass the glory of  (their deeds)
                                                           (what they achieved)

Upon whose souls may God have mercy

The latter version of the first phrase is a less literal translation, but probably better English!

The inscription is:- Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Translation - Give them eternal rest O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them.
